Bureau Commends Delta NUJ for Professionalism, Cordial Relations with Government
The Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications has commended the leadership and members of the Delta State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) for their professionalism in reporting the programmes, policies

The Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications has commended the leadership and members of the Delta State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) for their professionalism in reporting the programmes, policies and achievements of the state government since Governor Sheriff Oborevwori assumed office on May 29, 2023.

The Director-General of the Bureau, Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, Esq., gave the commendation when the Chairman of the Delta State Council of the NUJ, Comrade Churchill Oyovwe, visited the Bureau to identify with the ongoing Phase Two of the state’s Drug-Free DELTA campaign in selected colleges and tertiary institutions across the three senatorial districts.

Oghenesivbe described the Delta NUJ as a valuable partner in progress with Governor Oborevwori and the state government, and urged the leadership and members of the union to sustain the existing mutually beneficial relationship for the overall benefit of Delta State and its people, without compromising the union’s constitutional responsibility as the watchdog of society.

He said the Bureau had enjoyed a robust and cordial relationship with the state council of the NUJ, assuring that he would continue to support efforts aimed at strengthening and deepening the partnership in the interest of the state.

According to him, Governor Oborevwori has demonstrated through his actions and support that he values the NUJ and the contributions of journalists to good governance and development in Delta State.

The Director-General recalled that the Governor donated a giant power-generating set to the NUJ Secretariat in 2023 and recently provided a brand-new Toyota bus to strengthen the union’s logistics and operational capacity, among other assistance to the union.

Oghenesivbe expressed appreciation to Comrade Churchill Oyovwe for identifying with the Drug-Free DELTA campaign and for the continued support of the NUJ leadership for the activities of the Bureau and the state government.

Earlier, Comrade Oyovwe said he visited the Director-General and management of the Bureau to identify with the ongoing Phase Two campaign against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking, tagged Drug-Free DELTA. He assured that he would return with some members of his executive council to discuss mutually beneficial matters of strategic importance.

He noted that the reported increase in drug abuse and trafficking, as highlighted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), underscores the need for concerted efforts by government, relevant agencies, the media, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to tackle the menace.

Oyovwe commended the state government and Governor Oborevwori for taking decisive steps to address drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking in collaboration with the NDLEA.

He assured the Bureau that the Delta State Council of the NUJ would continue to support the Drug-Free DELTA initiative and deploy its various communication platforms to take the campaign’s message to young people and the general public.

The NUJ Chairman urged the Bureau and the Director-General to sustain the momentum and remain committed to taking the campaign to its target audience across the state.

He reaffirmed the support of the Delta State NUJ for the Drug-Free DELTA initiative, stressing the importance of sustained public enlightenment, responsible media engagement and broad-based stakeholder collaboration in the fight against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking.
