Former Kogi State Governor, Ibrahim Idris, has died at the age of 77.
Idris reportedly died on Sunday, September 20, 2026, in the United Kingdom. The circumstances surrounding his death have not yet been made public.
Following the news of his passing, Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, former Governor Yahaya Bello, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Abdullahi Bello, and other senior government officials visited the deceased’s residence in Abuja to condole with his family.
The visit was disclosed in a condolence statement issued on Sunday by Onogwu Muhammed, former Chief Press Secretary to Bello and Special Adviser to the Kogi State Governor on Public Relations.
According to the statement, the officials arrived at the Abuja residence of the former governor shortly after his death to offer their condolences to his family.
Idris was governor of Kogi State for two terms, serving from 2003 to 2011. His death marks the loss of one of the state’s former political leaders.
