DELTA POLICE DISMISS SAHARA REPORTERS’ CLAIM, INSIST NO VIP PROTECTION BREACH
The Delta State Police Command has dismissed as false and misleading an online report alleging that it violated the Presidential directive on the withdrawal of police personnel from VIP duties.

The Delta State Police Command has dismissed as false and misleading an online report alleging that it violated the Presidential directive on the withdrawal of police personnel from VIP duties.

Reacting to the report attributed to Sahara Reporters, the Command said it has no officers attached to any individual identified as Sunny Nwakaego in Sapele, contrary to claims circulated online.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the report was based on “unverified social media posts” and did not reflect the true position of the Delta State Police Command or the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

“The allegation that officers remain attached to a resident identified as Sunny Nwakaego in Sapele despite the Presidential directive is incorrect and should be completely disregarded,” Edafe stated.

Clarifying the incident referenced in the report, the Command explained that on December 12, 2025, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Sapele Division received a distress call from two individuals, Precious Itorho and Believe Odorkor, against one Sunday Okeke, over a disagreement arising from an undisclosed business transaction.

According to the police, the disagreement escalated into a feud, prompting swift intervention by the DPO.

“All parties involved were invited to the division, statements were taken, and they were subsequently granted bail while investigations continue,” Edafe said, stressing that the incident had no connection with VIP police attachment.

The Command further reaffirmed its full compliance with the Federal Government’s directive, as conveyed by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, on the nationwide withdrawal and redeployment of officers from personal VIP duties to core policing responsibilities.

“Implementation of the directive has been carried out in a structured and professional manner to ensure that public safety and security are not compromised,” the statement added.

The Delta State Police Command reiterated its commitment to professionalism, discipline and transparency in the discharge of its duties, while urging members of the media to always verify information through the office of the Police Public Relations Officer before publication.
