Iranian authorities have executed a man accused of providing sensitive information about Iranian missile installations to Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad.
The judiciary identified the executed man as Hossein Pedaran, saying he was convicted of espionage and intelligence cooperation with Israel.
According to Iranian judicial authorities, Pedaran supplied Mossad with information about missile sites in Isfahan Province, central Iran. His death sentence was reportedly upheld by Iran’s Supreme Court before the execution was carried out.
Authorities did not disclose when Pedaran was arrested or when his trial took place. They also said the case had not previously been reported publicly.
The execution comes amid an increase in arrests and capital punishment in Iran linked to the ongoing Middle East conflict and nationwide unrest.
Iranian military installations, including missile facilities, have come under repeated attack during the conflict, while Isfahan Province, which also hosts key nuclear facilities, has been among the areas affected by the fighting.
In August, Iranian authorities announced the executions of two other men accused of transmitting the coordinates of sensitive military and security installations to Israel.
Rights organisations say Iran has one of the highest execution rates in the world, ranking second globally after China.
